Aday Mara recupera sensaciones en Michigan

Aday Mara debutó en la ACB en 2022 ante Baskonia y maravilló con 8 puntos y 4 rebotes. En 22 encuentros promedió 5,3 tantos, 3,2 rechaces y 1 tapón, con Casademont Zaragoza. Entonces, el pívot venía de deslumbrar en el Mundial Sub17, donde España se colgó la plata tras dar guerra en la final a Estados Unidos.

Tras confirmar que podía hacer cosas jugando con los mayores, optó por cruzar el charco, dejar su querida Zaragoza para irse a la prestigiosa UCLA. Pero allí las cosas no iban a salir del todo bien. 61 partidos en dos años, pero sin ser importante, firmando 5 puntos, 3 rebotes y 1 tapón y sin la confianza del entrenador.

Mara optó por dejar la soleada California y marcharse a Michigan. Y en los Wolverines parece haber encontrado el camino para volver a su mejor versión y al camino que le lleve a convertirse en un pívot dominante.

No hay que olvida que Aday aún no ha cumplido los 21 (lo hará en mayo), que mide 2,21 y pesa unos 111 kilos, y que es un interior con muy buena mano y una gran visión de juego. Un center muy interesante y capaz de hacer muchas cosas en la cancha y ser decisivo y determinante.

Esta campaña lleva jugados 26 partidos, en los que acredita unos más que sólidos 11,2 puntos, 7,1 capturas, 2,5 asistencias y 2,7 tapones, con un sensacional 65,2 % en tiros de campo, en 22,6 minutos por noche. Y, además, los Wolverines dominan la competición con un récord apabullante de 25-1.

Ahora mismo, el equipo lleva 11 victorias consecutivas y su única derrota tuvo lugar el 10 de enero ante Wisconsin por un ajustado 91-88.

Por el momento, los españoles Baba Miller y Sergio de Larrea son los mejor posicionados para ser elegidos en la postemporada por los equipos de la NBA, bien con los últimos números de la primera ronda o los primeros de la segunda. ¿Logrará Aday Mara que su nombre suene entre los 60 elegidos?
